A great strength of mathematical solutions is their universality!

Often, a practical problem arising from one specific application leads via many abstraction steps to a new general mathematical problem. Once this general problem is solved, the solution can be retransferred to the original problem - and sometimes to many other practical problems as well. Partially these problems can come from surprisingly different application fields.
