Prof. Michael Hintermüller new Chair for ECMath

On December 2nd, 2016, Michael Hintermüller was elected as new Chair of the Einstein Center for Mathematics Berlin (ECMath) by a large majority of the ECMath General Assembly. The election of Chairs and Executive Board takes place every two years.






Michael Hintermüller is Director of the Weierstraß-Institut für Angewandte Analysis und Stochastik (WIAS) and Professor at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. As ECMath-Chair, he follows Prof. Ralf Kornhuber (FU Berlin). New Deputy Chairs are Prof. Christof Schütte (President of Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) and Professor at FU Berlin) and Prof. Martin Skutella (Chair of Matheon and Professor at TU Berlin). The newly elected Executive Board of ECMath consists of the FU-Professors Ralf Kornhuber, Christof Schütte and Günter Ziegler, the TU-Professors Volker Mehrmann and Martin Skutella, Prof. Jürg Kramer of the HU Berlin and Prof. Alexander Mielke of WIAS. Representative of the Scientific Employees is Dr. Matthias Liero (WIAS).

The following Professors were elected as Permanent Guests of the Executive Board: Gitta Kutyniok, John Sullivan (both TU Berlin), Rupert Klein (FU Berlin), Caren Tischendorf (HU Berlin), Ralf Borndörfer (Zuse-Institut Berlin) and Wolfgang König (WIAS).

The mandate of the newly elected Executive Board of ECMath will end in December 2018.
